🏰 The 2009 Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet Clos Saint-Jean 1er Cru is a red Burgundy, made from Pinot Noir. The 2009 vintage in Burgundy was generally acclaimed for its benevolent sunshine and timely rains, leading to generous ripeness and aromatic vibrancy. Ramonet is a highly respected producer, and their Chassagne-Montrachet wines, both red and white, are known for their quality. This particular wine is noted for being a good example of red Chassagne, often exceeding expectations for a Côte de Beaune red. 【 Ramonet's esteemed reputation and specific vineyard expression 】 contribute to its allure. Tasting notes often highlight a pale color with a light brown rim, a tangy nose with predominant anise, and a lovely weight with surprising grip and penetration. It presents a combination of red and black fruit with a candied element, slightly brambly but with very good length. Other descriptions include red fruits with an underlying mineral or stone quality, and a medium-bodied palate with integrated acidity and tannins. It can also show notes of raspberry, strawberry, leather, minerals, mushroom, oak, tobacco, and cedar. This wine has the potential to improve with additional bottle age.
🍴 This elegant red Burgundy pairs wonderfully with poultry, lighter game birds, mushroom-based dishes, and roasted pork. Its earthy and fruity notes also make it a good match for dishes with truffle or a simple, high-quality cheese platter.
🥂 Ideal for intimate dinner parties, special family gatherings, or a sophisticated evening where a mature and expressive Burgundy is desired. It's a wine to be savored and appreciated for its nuanced character.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Ramonet is a prominent wine producer in the Burgundy appellations of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet, France. Ramonet owns more than 15 hectares (37 acres) of vineyards. The primary grape variety is Chardonnay, with a small amount of Pinot Noir also planted. The estate's most important wines are made from Chardonnay from the area's grand cru vineyards, and are highly collectible, often selling for high prices at auction. Domaine Ramonet makes several red wines from Pinot Noir as well. Domaine Ramonet is now run by Noël and Jean-Claude Ramonet, following the death of their father Pierre in the mid-1990s.
