🏰 The 2005 Armand Rousseau Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques is widely regarded as a magical wine and one of the great renditions of this cuvée in recent times. The 2005 growing season in Burgundy was near-ideal, bestowing upon the grapes an enviable harmony between ripeness and acidity. This wine unfurls with a deep and complex bouquet of red berries and plums, mingled with hints of raw cocoa, violets, blood orange, peony, and enticing carnal bass notes. Full-bodied, deep, and multidimensional, it is seamless and complete, with fine concentration, racy yet ripe acids, and ample reserves of fine, powdery tannin, concluding with a long and sapid finish. It's often described as a "Grand Cru in all but name" due to its exceptional quality and aging potential.
🥂 This Armand Rousseau Clos Saint-Jacques 2005 is a profound red Burgundy, perfect for a landmark celebration, a serious collector's tasting, or an intimate dinner where its complexity can be the star. It is still very much on the way up and will benefit from further cellaring, with some suggesting another 10 to 15 years for optimal enjoyment. If opening now, a decant of 2-3 hours is recommended to allow its tightly-coiled aromas and flavors to fully express themselves. Serve at 16-18°C (60-65°F).
🍴 This powerful and elegant Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru pairs exquisitely with classic Burgundian fare and other rich, savory dishes. Consider roasted game birds like duck or pheasant, beef bourguignon, coq au vin, or a perfectly cooked filet mignon. It also complements earthy dishes featuring mushrooms or truffles, and a selection of aged, firm cheeses.
