Ghislaine Barthod, Chambolle Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru, 2005
🏰news | features + short tasting note IN ENGLISH
【Ghislaine Barthod's Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras 2005 is a quintessential Premier Cru Burgundy, celebrated for its silky texture, precise minerality, and exceptional aging potential.】 The 2005 Burgundy vintage was marked by generous ripeness and a balanced structure, ideal for wines destined for aging. Sourced from clay-limestone soils rich in white marls, this wine gains a chalky minerality and characteristic tension. Traditional vinification methods, measured extraction, and barrel aging contribute to its silky precision. The wine displays a deep ruby robe with garnet reflections, dense and luminous. The complex aroma offers candied black raspberry, lightly smoked black tea, delicate iris, a hint of marzipan, lifted by a subtle chalky salinity. The palate has a silky attack, lively and precise acidity, and a chalky minerality that carries a long, floral finish, where fruity sweetness and soft spices intertwine. Also noted are red and black cherries, wild strawberries, blood orange, cocoa, and rose aromas.

BACKGROUND
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is one of the most prominent producers in the Chambolle-Musigny appellation of Burgundy, known for its intense, ageworthy wines from the Pinot Noir grape variety. The estate was founded by Marcel Noëllat in the early 20th century. Marcel's daughter married Gaston Barthod, an officer in the French army stationed in Dijon. They developed the domaine together over the decades. After Gaston's death in 1999, their daughter Ghislaine took over, having managed the estate for the previous decade. Ghislaine and her partner Louis Boillot combine vineyard work across their respective domaines, but the estates are run separately and the wines are produced in their respective wineries.
