Ghislaine Barthod, Chambolle Musigny Les Fuees 1er Cru, 2009
🏰 The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuees 1er Cru from Ghislaine Barthod (or similar producers like Jacques-Frederic Mugnier or Patrice Rion) is a 【beautifully ripe and flamboyant example】 of the 2009 vintage, known for its superb textural richness. This Pinot Noir from 布根地 (Burgundy) offers enticing aromas of raspberry, blueberry, menthol, minerals, and spices, with a hint of cherry liqueur. The palate is deep, full-bodied, and focused, with a plump core of sappy fruit. It presents dark red cherries, flowers, mint, and spices woven into a fabric of notable beauty. Despite its youthful drinkability, patience will be rewarded as its structural elements integrate further.
🍴 This elegant red Burgundy pairs wonderfully with classic French cuisine. Think roasted poultry like duck or guinea fowl, delicate game birds, or pan-seared foie gras. It also complements mushroom-based dishes, truffle pasta, or a fine selection of mild, aged cheeses. The wine's fruit-driven character and fine tannins make it versatile for dishes with earthy notes.
🥂 This 1er Cru is perfect for a special occasion dinner, a romantic evening, or a serious tasting among Burgundy enthusiasts. Its evolving complexity makes it a fascinating wine to contemplate. While enjoyable now, it will continue to develop beautifully over the next 5-7 years, revealing more nuanced tertiary flavors. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F) after a brief decant to allow its aromas to fully open.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is one of the most prominent producers in the Chambolle-Musigny appellation of Burgundy, known for its intense, ageworthy wines from the Pinot Noir grape variety. The estate was founded by Marcel Noëllat in the early 20th century. Marcel's daughter married Gaston Barthod, an officer in the French army stationed in Dijon. They developed the domaine together over the decades. After Gaston's death in 1999, their daughter Ghislaine took over, having managed the estate for the previous decade. Ghislaine and her partner Louis Boillot combine vineyard work across their respective domaines, but the estates are run separately and the wines are produced in their respective wineries.
