🏰 The 2014 vintage in Burgundy was challenging with a cool and damp summer, but ultimately produced wines of character and aging potential. Joseph Drouhin's 2014 Musigny Grand Cru was picked on September 19 and contained 15% whole cluster fruit. It was bottled on August 14, possibly earlier than other Musignys of the vintage. The Drouhin estate owns 0.67 hectares (1.675 acres) in Musigny, with an average vine age of 33 years, on chalky soil strewn with pebbles. The wine exhibits remarkable purity of color. When young, it offers aromas of violet and fruit stone, evolving after 8-10 years into refined and complex notes of fallen leaves, damp earth, moss, and hints of fur or leather. The 2014 vintage specifically shows a well-defined bouquet of red rather than black fruit, like raspberry preserve, tobacco, wild strawberry, and a touch of peppermint, gaining complexity in the glass. The palate is smooth, very supple with firm tannins, described as a more masculine Musigny. It unfurls in layers, with nuanced juxtapositions of ripe cherries and blackcurrant against fine-grained tannins, subtle hints of vanilla and spice from oak aging, and bright acidity. Other notes mention a broad-ranging nose with spice elements, black tea, earth, and floral hints, leading to powerful, muscular, big-bodied flavors with fine dry extract, a suave, velvety mouthfeel, and superb persistence. 【Inimitable combination of power and finesse from a revered Grand Cru vineyard】.
🍴 Classic pairings for this wine include roasted duck, goose, and various game birds.
🥂 This is a wine for serious collectors and connoisseurs, ideal for a grand celebration or a contemplative tasting. Its elegance and aging potential make it a compelling prospect for investment.
