🏰 The 2016 Arlaud Gevrey Chambertin is a testament to Cyprien Arlaud's dedication, especially given the challenging vintage marked by frost, which led to a 50% reduction in estate-wide production. Despite this, the second half of the vintage was superb, yielding good grapes and a wine that Cyprien describes as a "good Burgundian vintage, classic in the sense of freshness and site expression, and with more red fruit than black character." Arlaud's commitment to biodynamics (certified in 2014) is evident in the wine's quality. This red Burgundy is often described as classy, suave, and energetic, with a highly perfumed nose of bright red fruit and red florals, particularly roses. Underlying soil tones add complexity. On the palate, it offers excellent balance and harmonious flavours, with a structural firmness. Expect little red fruit aromas like raspberry and gooseberries, and for the 1er Cru Aux Combottes, notes of rounded tannin and confit-like fruit, with traces of salted licorice on the aftertaste. While some initial reduction might be present, it gives way to beautiful red berry fruit.
🍴 This classic red Burgundy is a superb match for duck, goose, and other game birds. It also pairs wonderfully with beef, veal, and various game meats like deer and venison.
🥂 The 2016 Arlaud Gevrey Chambertin is perfect for a refined dinner, a special gathering, or for those who appreciate the nuanced elegance of a classic red Burgundy. While enjoyable now, it has significant aging potential and will continue to develop beautifully in the cellar.
