🏰 The 2017 vintage in Burgundy for red wines was generally well-regarded, offering a balance of freshness and ripeness. Domaine Arlaud's Gevrey-Chambertin 2017 is described as having a medium dark red color with a purple hue, and notes of dark fruit and some licorice. On the palate, it is soft and silky with a deep, somewhat masculine body. Critics noted a little oak on the nose from barrel samples, with an open palate, more volume, and a grain of tannin framing the fresh, mobile flavor. It's considered a "vin de garde" (wine for aging) and brilliantly floral, with intense length. This wine is in a very early stage and would benefit from further cellaring to allow its dense masculinity to soften. 【A classic Gevrey, typical of its appellation, with a slightly meaty character】. The 2017 vintage overall for Burgundy reds was seen as a "modern classic".
🍴 This Gevrey-Chambertin, with its masculine body and red fruit notes, pairs wonderfully with hearty and savory dishes. Consider traditional French cuisine like duck confit, coq au vin, or a rich beef bourguignon. It's also an excellent match for roasted game birds, grilled lamb chops, or a homemade pâté en croûte with duck and foie gras.
🥂 This wine is suitable for a special dinner with friends or family, particularly for those who appreciate a more structured and age-worthy red Burgundy. It's also a great choice for a wine club tasting focused on exploring different Burgundy appellations, showcasing the potential of a well-made Gevrey-Chambertin.
