FEATURES
🏰 The 1997 Moillard Romanee Saint Vivant Grand Cru hails from a vintage in Burgundy that, while not universally declared exceptional, produced some charming and elegant wines, particularly from Grand Cru sites. 【This Grand Cru Pinot Noir from Romanee Saint Vivant is renowned for its elegance, aromatic complexity, and silky texture, even in its youth.】 As a 1997 vintage, this wine is now approaching three decades of age, offering a mature expression of Burgundy's finest terroir. Expect a bouquet of dried red fruits, forest floor, subtle spice, and perhaps a hint of truffle or leather, characteristic of aged Pinot Noir. The palate should be refined, with softened tannins and a lingering, savory finish. While specific tasting notes for this exact wine and vintage are scarce, Romanee Saint Vivant is known for its delicate power and aromatic finesse. 🍴 This mature Grand Cru Burgundy is best paired with equally refined dishes. Think roasted poultry like guinea fowl or pheasant, delicate game, mushroom risotto, or subtle truffle preparations. It can also be a sublime match for aged Comté or other semi-hard, nutty cheeses. 🥂 This is a wine for a truly special occasion, perhaps an intimate gathering of connoisseurs or a significant anniversary. Given its age, handle with extreme care. Stand the bottle upright for several days to allow any sediment to settle. Decanting is recommended for 30-60 minutes to allow it to breathe and shed any initial mustiness, but be prepared for a fragile cork and capsule. Serve at a cool cellar temperature (around 16-17°C) to preserve its delicate aromas.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Moillard is a Burgundy wine merchant with a long history located in the Côte d'Or. It has land in the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, and half of its production reaches the first-class level. Produces a range of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Aligoté wines. The domaine is located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, but its 20 hectares (49 acres) of vineyard land stretch from Vougeot in the north to Volnay in the south. The domaine also owns land in several top vineyards and 73 hectares (180 acres) of organically farmed land in the Languedoc. The domaine was founded in 1850 by Symphorien Moillard and was managed by the family until 2008, when it was sold to Vincent Sauvestre.
