🏰 The 2012 vintage in Bordeaux presented challenges, yet Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou produced a 【remarkably elegant and well-structured wine】 that stands as a testament to the estate's masterful craftsmanship. This Second Growth Saint-Julien is known for its deep, vivid purple color and a beautiful bouquet of blackcurrant, violets, licorice, and graphite notes. On the palate, it offers layers of dark fruit, fine-grained tannins, and a savory touch of cassis, with a long, persistent finish. It's drinking well now but has the potential to evolve further over the next decade.
🍴 This archetypal Bordeaux red pairs exquisitely with classic meat dishes such as roasted lamb with rosemary, grilled ribeye, or beef Wellington. Its elegance also complements hearty fish courses like tuna, mushrooms, and pasta, as well as aged cheeses.
🥂 An excellent choice for a sophisticated dinner party, a celebratory meal, or a special occasion where a classic, age-worthy Bordeaux is desired. It's also a fantastic wine for collectors looking to enjoy a mature Saint-Julien.
BACKGROUND
Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a property in the Saint-Julien appellation of the Médoc, rated a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The 75-hectare (185-acre) vineyard is situated in the southeast of the appellation, near the village of Beychevelle and bordering Branaire-Ducru. It is near the river, which gives protection from frost and hail, and on the deepest gravel layers there is enhanced drainage, evening warmth, and a protective layer stopping the subsoil from drying out in heat waves. Alluvial deposits and a high clay content enrich the soil, and the vineyard takes its name from these "beautiful stones". It is planted 70 percent to Cabernet Sauvignon and 30 percent to Merlot.
