FEATURES
🏰 The 1975 vintage has consistently been recognized as one of Vega Sicilia's great years, with the potential to be among this historic winery's finest offerings. Unico is a blend primarily of Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), with additions of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and a small percentage of Malbec and Albillo. The grapes were harvested from October 8th. Vega Sicilia Unico is widely regarded as Spain's finest red wine.
This wine displays a beautiful, saturated, dense ruby/purple color, often appearing near-opaque ruby garnet with a gold-tinged edge. The nose is tight yet rich, offering black and red fruits, spices, and toasty oak. It is soft and mellow with kirsch, liquorice, dried Italian meats, and a touch of eucalyptus. Expect an integrated, harmonized, and fully mature bouquet that is oxidative but not oxidized, with dusty and raw meat notes dancing alongside fresh and dried strawberry and cherry fruit. On the palate, the wine is very deep, pure, and full-bodied, with still a bit of moderate tannin, a bottomless core of fruit, tangy acids, and impeccable focus and grip on the long, complex, and suavely balanced finish. It offers a sorbet-like freshness on entry, fresh and enticing, with voluptuous candied red fruits towards the finish, exhibiting a Burgundy-like texture. Firm, fine, ripe tannins and fresh acidity frame aromas of deep elegant fruit and dusty oak, leading to a finish that can last at least two minutes. It combines awesome power and richness with considerable structure and delineation. 【 A legendary vintage at its peak, with decades of life ahead 】
🍴 Given its complexity and age, this Unico pairs exquisitely with refined dishes such as roasted game, slow-cooked lamb, or aged hard cheeses. It has been enjoyed with a rack of venison.
🥂 This venerable 1975 Unico is a testament to the longevity of great wines. It is now at its apogee of peak drinkability, yet still possesses decades and decades of life ahead, with a recommended drinking window extending beyond 2025. This wine is suitable for a truly momentous occasion, a milestone celebration, or a contemplative tasting among serious collectors.
**Serving Advice for Old Wine:** This 1975 Unico is a rare and delicate treasure. Expect the cork to be fragile; use a Durand or an Ah-So opener. Decanting is highly recommended for 2-3 hours to allow the wine to shed any sediment and fully express its complex bouquet, but be mindful of its age and avoid over-aeration. Serve gently at around 16-18°C (60-64°F) in large Burgundy-style glasses to appreciate its evolving aromas. Handle the bottle with care to minimize disturbing any sediment.
