🏰 The 2008 vintage in 布根地 (Burgundy) was a challenging year, marked by poor weather in spring and summer, yet it was ultimately "saved" by excellent conditions from mid-September onwards. Despite a general lack of depth in some reds, the best examples from this vintage offer concentrated, bright, and clear fruit with balanced acidity and gentle tannins, often accompanied by a distinct spiciness. While the grapes were more wind-dried than sun-ripened, leading to pronounced colors and intense fruit upfront with powerful acidity, the quality varied significantly, highlighting the importance of diligent vineyard work and selection by individual producers. 【A vintage "saved" by a beautiful late-season turnaround.】
🍴 This elegant Grand Cru Pinot Noir is a superb match for classic Burgundian fare. Consider pairing it with roasted duck, goose, or other game birds. It also complements mushroom-based dishes, delicate pan-seared veal, or a fine coq au vin.
🥂 The 2008 Trapet Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru is currently ready to drink and the best examples can still cellar for a little longer. Given the potential for high acidity in this vintage, a brief decant of 30-60 minutes might help it open up and soften, allowing its complex aromas to fully express themselves. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F) to appreciate its nuanced character.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Trapet is a wine company comprised of two estates, one in Alsace, the other in Burgundy. The company in its current dual-region configuration formed when Andrée Trapet inherited her parents' vineyards in Alsace in 2002. Her husband Jean-Louis has run Domaine Trapet Père et Fils in Gevrey-Chambertin since 1990, when he took over from his father Jean.
