FEATURES
🏰news | features: The 2014 Gourt de Mautens Rasteau Rouge is a 【highly sought-after, rare production from a biodynamic estate】, showcasing a powerful, spherical, and profound expression of the Southern Rhône. In 2010, Jérôme Bressy controversially moved to an IGP Vaucluse label to maintain his traditional grape varieties and goblet training methods, which were prohibited by AOC Rasteau regulations. This vintage is a stunning blend of forgotten grape varieties, fermented naturally with whole bunches and aged for 24-36 months in various vessels.
+ short tasting note: 【A powerful, bold, and luscious red with an incredibly long finish, revealing tertiary notes of undergrowth, prune, confit, musk, leather, and potpourri, alongside hints of ripe black plum and black cherry.】 The palate is fine yet still delicately firm, coating the mouth without disturbing alcohol, offering a savory balance. Oak aging contributes woody aromas and tertiary notes like liquorice and smoke.
🍴 Chinese Cantonese food pairing: This wine is fantastic alongside grilled or stewed meats, flavourful and noble dishes like beef, or traditional French civets and daubes.
🥂 fit for event suggestion: An exceptional, rare cuvée with good aging potential, perfect for a hearty autumn or winter meal, or for collectors seeking unique Rhône expressions.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Gourt de Mautens currently spans 13 hectares. The owner, Jérôme Bressy, began making wine from his father's vineyards in 1996 and 1997, establishing his own estate in 1998. A significant factor contributing to the quality of Bressy's wines is the age of the vines, with some reaching up to 90 years old. The estate produces a range of wines, including rare Rasteau village-level red and white wines. The red is dominated by 70% Grenache, complemented by 30% Carignan, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Counoise, Muscardin, and Vaccarèse. The white consists of 45% Grenache Blanc, 45% Bourboulenc, and a blend of other minor varieties.
