🏰 **Pierre Gonon Saint Joseph Rouge 2018** is a dark, powerful, and medium to full-bodied effort that masterfully balances the sunny, ripe style of the vintage with remarkable purity and freshness. This wine is a thrilling drink, showcasing 【intensely perfumed, mineral-accented aromas of red and blue fruit preserves, licorice, exotic spices, and potpourri, with an exotic suggestion of incense】. On the palate, it stains with concentrated black raspberry, cassis, bitter cherry, and fruitcake flavors, lifted by a spicy hint of white pepper. A violet pastille nuance emerges with aeration, leading to an extremely long, youthfully tannic finish with outstanding definition and mineral thrust. While ripe, it maintains a freshness that keeps it appealing, with notes of black olives, iron, and crushed wild black raspberries.
🍴 This powerful Saint Joseph Rouge is an ideal match for grilled meats, salted meats, and other hearty Syrah pairings like lamb.
🥂 This wine is currently in a phase of "sullen adolescence," meaning it's best to cellar it for another few years to allow its firm tannins to soften and its complex flavors to fully develop. It's a perfect addition to a cellar for future enjoyment at a celebratory dinner or a gathering where a robust and evolving red wine is desired.
