FEATURES
🏰Domaine François Lamarche's Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2001 is a powerful and structured expression from a prestigious estate, known for its unique blend of Clos de Vougeot from three distinct parcels. The 2001 Burgundy vintage, while challenging with a wet, cool, and cloudy year, saw the Côte de Nuits produce some of its highest-performing reds. This wine is a scented, stylish midweight Pinot Noir, offering a lightness of touch, tension, and aromatic complexity that only Burgundy can deliver. Expect deep dark cherry, blackberry, and plum flavors layered with earthy minerality and hints of spice, supported by firm tannins and bright acidity, culminating in a long, complex finish that truly reflects its Grand Cru pedigree.
🍴 This Grand Cru Burgundy is an excellent match for roasted game birds like pheasant or duck, beef Wellington, or rich mushroom-based dishes. It also pairs beautifully with aged, earthy cheeses.
🥂 Perfect for a significant celebration or a serious wine collector's tasting. Most 2001 reds are approaching full maturity and are ready to drink, though they continue to evolve slowly. For older vintages, it's always a good idea to have a corkscrew designed for delicate corks and to decant carefully to separate any sediment.
BACKGROUND
François Lamarche is a historic winery located in the village of Vosne-Romanée, France. The primary grape variety is Pinot Noir. The winery was founded in the early 20th century by Henri Lamarche and his wife, Marie Grivelet, both of whom hailed from Burgundy and had extensive experience in wine production. In 2019, the current owner, Nicole Lamarche, officially renamed the winery to Domaine Nicole Lamarche, and from the 2018 vintage onwards, the wines no longer bear the name of the former owner, François Lamarche.
