FEATURES
🏰Michel Gaunoux is a highly respected, traditional producer in Burgundy, particularly celebrated for their long-lived Pommard wines. The Pommard Grands Epenots 1er Cru 1996 is a 【classic, age-worthy 1er Cru Pommard from Michel Gaunoux, known for its traditional, structured Pinot Noir that beautifully expresses the powerful terroir of Grands Epenots, now showing elegant maturity from the excellent 1996 vintage】. It comes from one of Pommard's most esteemed Premier Cru vineyards, known for producing powerful and structured Pinot Noir. The 1996 vintage in Burgundy was excellent, especially for red wines, yielding wines with high acidity and firm tannins that have allowed them to age gracefully and develop complex tertiary characteristics. Expect a wine with an evolved ruby-garnet color. On the nose, it should offer a complex bouquet of dried red fruits (cherry, cranberry), forest floor, mushroom, leather, and savory spice, with hints of game and truffle. The palate will be medium-bodied with resolved yet firm tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, earthy, and mineral-driven finish, showcasing the powerful terroir of Grands Epenots. 🍴 This mature Pommard is an ideal partner for classic Burgundian cuisine such as coq au vin, beef bourguignon, roasted game birds, or earthy mushroom dishes. 🥂 Perfect for a special anniversary, a retrospective tasting of older Burgundy, or a thoughtful gift for a serious Pinot Noir collector. For a wine of this age, careful handling is essential. Stand the bottle upright for at least 24-48 hours to allow any sediment to settle. Decant gently 1-2 hours before serving to separate sediment and allow the wine to breathe, revealing its complex tertiary aromas. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F). Be prepared for a potentially fragile cork and capsule.
