FEATURES
🏰 The 1988 Francois Lamarche Vosne Romanee Les Suchots 1er Cru is a rare and distinguished Burgundy Pinot Noir, offering a 【captivating glimpse into the elegance and evolved complexity of a mature Vosne-Romanee from a respected producer】. The 1988 vintage in Burgundy was generally considered a good, classic vintage, producing wines with good acidity and structure, suitable for aging. While specific detailed tasting notes for this exact wine and vintage are scarce, a well-preserved bottle would likely showcase the hallmark Vosne-Romanee characteristics of perfumed red fruits, floral notes, and a silky texture, now beautifully integrated with tertiary aromas of forest floor, truffle, game, and subtle spice. Expect a delicate ruby hue with some bricking at the rim, indicative of its age.
🍴 This venerable Pinot Noir demands thoughtful food pairings that respect its delicate, evolved character. Classic pairings include roasted game birds like pheasant or partridge, duck breast with a cherry reduction, or a refined mushroom risotto. It would also be exquisite with delicate beef preparations, such as beef Wellington, or a selection of mild, earthy cheeses like Epoisses or Comté. Avoid strong, spicy, or heavily sauced dishes that could overpower its nuanced flavors.
🥂 This is a wine for a truly special occasion, a significant anniversary, or a focused tasting among Burgundy aficionados. It's an opportunity to appreciate the graceful aging of fine Pinot Noir. Given its age, expect some sediment; decant very gently for 30-60 minutes to separate the wine from any deposits and allow it to open up. Serve at a cellar temperature of 14-16°C (57-61°F). Be extremely careful with the cork, as it will be fragile; a two-pronged cork puller or Durand is highly recommended.
BACKGROUND
François Lamarche is a historic winery located in the village of Vosne-Romanée, France. The primary grape variety is Pinot Noir. The winery was founded in the early 20th century by Henri Lamarche and his wife, Marie Grivelet, both of whom hailed from Burgundy and had extensive experience in wine production. In 2019, the current owner, Nicole Lamarche, officially renamed the winery to Domaine Nicole Lamarche, and from the 2018 vintage onwards, the wines no longer bear the name of the former owner, François Lamarche.
