🏰 Domaine des Comtes Lafon is highly regarded, and their Volnay Santenots du Milieu 1er Cru 2020 is a monumental wine. The 2020 vintage in Burgundy was a warm one, producing wines with ripe fruit yet retaining elegance and good acidity. This particular wine is described as having a deep bouquet of wild berries, plums, and cassis, mingled with hints of spices, grilled meats, and rose petals. It's full-bodied, layered, and concentrated, with powdery structuring tannins and lively acids, suggesting it will require some bottle age. 【 A monumental wine with superb length 】. Critics have praised its super-ripe black cherry and currant fruit, accented with rose petals, liquorice, smoke, and minerals, noting its dense yet vibrantly fresh texture and superbly long finish.
🍴 This powerful and elegant Volnay 1er Cru would be an exceptional pairing for sophisticated red meat dishes. Consider roasted lamb, beef fillet, or game birds. Its complexity and structure would also complement dishes with truffle or mushroom elements, or even a rich beef bourguignon.
🥂 This wine is ideal for a significant celebration, a formal dinner, or a serious Burgundy tasting. Its potential for aging makes it a prime candidate for cellaring and enjoying over many years, making it a thoughtful gift for a collector or a centerpiece for a special event.
BACKGROUND
Domaine des Comtes Lafon is a wine producer in Burgundy, France, making some of the most lauded (and highly priced) white wines from Chardonnay in the region. The primary grape variety is Chardonnay, with a small portion being Pinot Noir. The estate is located in Meursault in the Côte de Beaune subregion, but has vineyards in three other villages: Chassagne-Montrachet, Volnay and Monthélie. Comtes Lafon's house and cellar were built in 1869 by the Boch family, but its reputation as a winery was most heavily influenced by Jules Lafon, who married Marie Boch in 1894.
