🏰 The 2006 vintage in Châteauneuf-du-Pape was a "very good year" with ideal maturation conditions despite a rainfall deficit. This vintage is noted for its "beautiful generosity, deep colour, fragrance of red and black fruits, good balance with mellow and elegant tannins" and "good natural acidity". Some critics compare it to 1999 and see it as a continuation of the quality found in 2003, 2004, and 2005. Yields were kept below the maximum allowed, around 32 hectoliters per hectare.
The 2006 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape is described as "extraordinarily great," presenting a "dense ruby/purple color" and an "extraordinary bouquet of melted licorice, spring flowers, raspberries, black currants, spice box, and earth". On the palate, it is "utterly profound – full-bodied and multidimensional with astonishing purity, length, equilibrium, and intensity". It has gracefully shed its "baby fat" to reveal a "supple, elegant, seamless profile" with notes of kirsch, licorice, garrigue, and sweet spice. This wine is drinking brilliantly now and is expected to continue to evolve beautifully for another decade. 【One of the two or three candidates for the wine of the vintage】.
