🏰【A rare and highly collectible "Nacional" Vintage Port from ungrafted vines, offering a complex and mature expression of a unique terroir.】 The 1975 vintage was the first to be declared after the April 1974 Revolution and the first totally bottled in Portugal under legal resolution. It followed a rainy winter, with a hot and dry summer, and some rain before a late harvest in early October. Production was scarce, and while almost all producers declared, few wines were exceptional. The 1975 vintage is "not a legendary one for Nacional," but the wine is still "full of charm and the complexity of full maturity." Nacional's rarity is due to its tiny production of only 200-300 cases in a declared year from two and a half hectares of ungrafted vines. This Port displays a pale cherry/orange-red color. The nose is spicy and quite complex with notes of herb and tea. The palate is warm, spicy, and complex, like a colheita in style, sweet and rounded with lovely spiciness. It offers an intense, generous, opulent, and rich nose with floral, nutty, chocolate, spice, blackberry, and blueberry flavors. The taste is average in acidity, high alcohol, high tannin, concentrated, balanced, well-integrated, developing, medium-bodied, rich, harmonious, sweet, and drying tannins. The complex and ethereal nose offers scents of cherries, cigar smoke, heather, coffee, sous bois, clove-like spices, and a touch of ginger honey. The palate is fullish, complex, and intensely flavored, with lovely filigree, moderate depth, melting tannins, and lovely length and grip on the finish. It's a touch low in acidity by Nacional's high standards but a very pleasant drink. Some notes mention caramel intertwined with bright cherry fruit and nuttiness, with excellent acids.
🍴 This exceptional Port pairs wonderfully with aged cheeses, walnuts, dark chocolate desserts, or a fine cigar.
🥂 A truly momentous celebration, a significant anniversary, or a deep dive into the history of Port wine. This is a mature wine, past its prime for some, but still tasty and engaging. For a wine of this age, expect potential variations in bottle condition, and be prepared for delicate corks and capsules. Decanting is highly recommended to allow the wine to express its aged complexities fully and to separate any sediment.
