🏰The 1996 vintage for Châteauneuf-du-Pape was generally good, producing classic, savory wines with good aging potential. Rayas' Pignan Châteauneuf-du-Pape from this year is expected to be a nuanced and elegant expression from this legendary estate. Anticipate a wine with 【delicate red berry fruits, classic garrigue notes, subtle spice, and evolving leather and earthy undertones】, offering a medium to full-bodied palate with refined tannins.
🍴 This mature Châteauneuf-du-Pape is an excellent companion for roasted lamb, game birds, or hearty Mediterranean dishes like slow-cooked beef with herbs. It also pairs well with aged hard cheeses.
🥂 Ideal for a special occasion, a vertical tasting of Rayas, or a contemplative evening to savor a beautifully aged Rhône wine. As a wine from 1996, it offers a unique old wine style, showcasing developed tertiary aromas and flavors. Bottle variation can occur, so check the cork and capsule carefully upon opening.
BACKGROUND
Château Rayas is a leading producer in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation of the Rhône Valley, France. It is one of the region's most prestigious estates, and its wines fetch some of the highest prices in southern France. The estate covers 22 hectares, with 15 hectares dedicated to vineyards. Most of their vines are planted to Grenache. The estate's red wine is made solely from Grenache. The château's white Châteauneuf-du-Pape is generally made from Grenache Blanc and Clairette in roughly equaly proportions. Château Rayas has been in the Reynaud family since the 1880s.
