🏰 The 2022 E. Guigal Chateauneuf du Pape is a 【rich and smooth wine with powerful complexity】, born from a vintage marked by intense drought and early heatwaves, resulting in concentrated, freshly acidic wines. This deep, dark red wine immediately catches the eye. On the nose, it opens with expressive aromas of ripe red fruits, beautifully underlined by well-pronounced spicy notes. The palate delights with its complexity and power, offering tannins of lovely roundness. Expect vibrant flavors of black cherry and cassis intertwined with a robust framework of refined tannins and lively acidity, leading to a seductive hint of smoky crushed stone and toasted anise. It's intensely concentrated yet impeccably fresh.
🍴 This full-bodied Chateauneuf du Pape pairs wonderfully with classic meats such as roasted beef, veal, pork, or lamb, as well as game and duck. It also complements rustic dishes like cassoulet, moderately spiced Asian cuisine, tuna-based dishes, mushroom pasta, and aged cheeses. Consider it with roasted and spiced vegetable-driven dishes like Moroccan chicken tagine.
🥂 Ideal for a hearty dinner, a gathering with friends, or a special occasion, this wine is already accessible in its youth but will reveal its full potential after a few years of cellaring, enjoyable until around 2034. Serve at 15-16°C.
BACKGROUND
E Guigal is one of the most famous wine producers in the Rhône. The company was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis on the west bank of the Rhone, just a stone's throw from the famous sun-baked slopes of the Côte Rôtie. Guigard's flagship wines are the famous "LaLa": La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque. La Landonne is 100% Syrah, from 40-year-old vines and aged in oak barrels for a similar amount of time.
