Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Carruades De Lafite, 2005
🏰 The 2005 Carruades de Lafite is a truly outstanding second wine from Château Lafite Rothschild, showcasing the exceptional quality of the 2005 vintage with its remarkable concentration and elegance. This vintage is noted for its early approachability and significant investment potential. It reveals a complex bouquet of ripe dark fruits like cassis, blackberries, and black cherries, beautifully interwoven with subtle notes of cedarwood, tobacco, graphite, and a hint of spice. On the palate, it's a dense, rich, and luscious red wine, offering a silky texture with ripe, supple, and well-integrated tannins. Expect generous fruit flavors, vibrant acidity, and nuances of dark chocolate, coffee, and licorice, leading to a long, majestic finish. Decanter rated it 93 points, praising its understated elegance and multi-faceted character.
🍴 This elegant Pauillac pairs beautifully with classic meat dishes such as roasted lamb, beef, game, or poultry. Its rich fruit and refined tannins also make it an excellent match for dishes featuring dark chocolate or truffle elements.
🥂 Perfect for a sophisticated dinner party, a special anniversary celebration, or as a prized addition to any serious wine collector's cellar. Its investment potential also makes it a thoughtful gift for a discerning connoisseur.
The grapes are harvested from vineyards on the Carruades plateau, adjacent to the Château Lafite flagship vineyards, sharing similar terroir.
The winery selects only one-third of its wine each year for the Lafite flagship, using the remainder for Carruades.
The Lafite flagship is aged in 100% new barrels, which are then used for Carruades the following year.
In the early 20th century, Carruades de Lafite Rothschild became a bestseller after export, gaining more fame than the Lafite flagship. Some sommeliers promoted Carruades de Lafite as a special wine above the Lafite flagship. To correct this unintentional error, the winery renamed Carruades de Lafite to Moulin des Carruades until the 1980s, when they decided to revert to Carruades de Lafite Rothschild...
The 1974 Château Lafite mentioned in an article published in the February 13, 1978 issue of New York Magazine... Rothschild's second label is called Moulin des Carruades.
