BACKGROUND
Château de la Gardine is a 54-hectare (133-acre) wine estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, acquired by well-known négociant Gaston Brunel in 1945 and expanded over the decades. The estate vineyards in Châteauneuf-du-Pape span 52 hectares (128 acres), 48 hectares (117 acres) of which are planted to red varieties and four hectares (10 acres) to white. The property's terroir is composed of loam, limestone, gravel, and Châteauneuf-du-Pape's famous galets, or "pudding stones". It is planted to a range of the appellation's permitted grape varieties, including Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Muscardin, Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Roussanne and Bourboulenc.
