🏰 The 2009 vintage in the Northern Rhône produced large-scaled, substantial reds that were softer and more accessible due to lower acids and more opulent textures, yet still benefited from cellaring.
This is a blockbuster Cornas, monstrous but incredibly well-balanced with impressive purity. Aromas of crushed rocks, black fruits, camphor, and spring flowers soar from the glass. It shows an inky color and gorgeous aromas of crème de cassis, chocolate-laced blackberries, smoked meats, and searing minerality. The palate is full-bodied, powerful, with fantastic concentration and masses of tannin, offering more crème de cassis and blackberry fruit flavors. It's youthfully brooding, with deeply pitched cassis and cherry compote flavors that open with air, picking up strong spice and floral pastille qualities. Some notes mention coal dust, printer's ink, blackest berry, blood, bacon fat, violets, and stony earth, with a poised, bright palate and a long, crunchy finish. 【A blockbuster Cornas, showcasing immense power, concentration, and purity, built for long-term cellaring.】
🍴 Hearty red meat dishes like grilled lamb chops, slow-cooked beef stew, venison, or strong aged cheeses. For Eastern cuisine, consider Xinjiang lamb skewers, braised beef with star anise, or rich Korean galbi.
🥂 A serious wine for a special occasion, a robust dinner, or a tasting focused on powerful Syrah. Requires significant decanting if consumed young.
