This Gran Reserva displays a clean, bright ruby color evolving to maroon hues. The nose is intense and highly complex, offering notes of ripe and stewed fruit, vanilla, pastry, sweet spices like cinnamon and cloves, and balsamic hints. Some detect damp leather and aromatic wood. On the palate, it offers a pleasant entry, rounded with light, well-developed tannins and balanced acidity. Flavors include ripe fruits, sweet spices, a touch of cocoa, Mission fig, black-cherry, mocha, and marjoram. The finish is very long and silky, marked by hints of stewed fruit and lasting nutty notes.
🍴 This versatile Gran Reserva pairs excellently with barbecued meats, grilled meats, seared tuna, and high-fat cured cheeses. It also complements mushroom-based dishes, pasta with robust sauces, and surprisingly, mild Indian and Latin American dishes. It's perfect with grilled octopus and baked potatoes, Wagyu beef, and Peking duck. Lamb is a natural partner. For a unique finish, it can even accompany desserts like baked cheesecake and chocolate cake.
🥂 The Faustino I Gran Reserva 2011 is ideal for a celebratory dinner, a special family gathering, or as a sophisticated gift for a wine enthusiast. Its current maturity and aging potential make it suitable for enjoyment now or for further cellaring. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F) and consider decanting for about 30 minutes to enhance its bouquet and soften the tannins.
