🏰 The 2003 Burgundy vintage was marked by an exceptionally hot and dry summer, leading to an early harvest. Despite some frost in April that reduced yields, the red wines were deeply colored, full-fruited, and well-balanced, showcasing power and personality. Top estates produced big, impressive, fruit-driven wines with serious cellaring potential, with the Côte de Nuits performing particularly well. This Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru from Dominique Laurent exhibits a deep, intense black-red color. The nose is rich, powerful, and complex, with toasted vanilla and liquorice notes evolving into ripe black fruits. The palate is structured and fleshy, offering mineral, spicy, and smoky flavors, alongside fruity and salty undertones. Some tasters also noted a plummy color, a sweet and rich nose with cinnamon, ginger, star anise, and liquorice, and a characteristic "baked fruits" flavor of the hot 2003 vintage. 【A powerful and complex Nuits-Saint-Georges from a hot vintage, offering deep fruit, spicy notes, and significant aging potential.】
🍴 This robust red Burgundy is an excellent companion for strong cheeses, roasted game, beef bourguignon, and dishes featuring truffles. Its intensity can also stand up to rich, slow-cooked meats.
🥂 The 2003 Dominique Laurent Nuits Saint Georges Les Saint Georges Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru is a wine of real character with high keeping potential. The best examples are still drinking well and have considerable life left. While some suggest drinking it sooner rather than later due to its high ripeness and alcohol, it remains a compelling choice for a special occasion or a vertical tasting of older Burgundies.
