FEATURES
🏰 The 1990 M. Chapoutier Côte Rôtie La Mordorée comes from a highly regarded vintage in the Rhône Valley. Robert Parker famously rated this wine 94 points, describing its saturated dark ruby/purple color and an "awesome nose" of sweet black fruits, flowers, toasty new oak, and smoky bacon fat. On the palate, it offers superb concentration, a sweet, expansive texture, and a mind-bogglingly long finish. Other notes reveal raspberry, a hint of violet, predominant spices, black olive, tapenade, and rosemary, leading to an ample, elegant, very well-structured, and balanced palate. While some recent tastings (2023) suggest the fruit is beginning to fade, revealing notes of cherries, smoke, earth, and crushed rock, with a soft, round, and polished finish of red plum, cocoa, dried thyme, and cherry griotte, it still presents a pure silk texture with bright blueberry and red tart fruit. This wine was aged for 14-18 months in oak casks, with a proportion of new oak. 【Robert Parker 94 points, superb concentration and complexity】.
Serving Advice for a Mature Wine: This 1990 vintage is a mature wine, and while still enjoyable, it requires careful handling. Stand the bottle upright for several days to allow any sediment to settle. The cork may be fragile, so consider using a two-pronged cork puller or a Durand. Decanting for 30-60 minutes can help it open up, but be cautious not to over-decant, as very old wines can fade quickly. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
🍴 This lavishly rich Côte Rôtie pairs beautifully with roasted game, rich stews, grilled red meats, or dishes featuring truffles and earthy mushrooms. Its smoky and spicy notes would also complement charcuterie.
🥂 Ideal for a celebratory dinner, a special anniversary, or a tasting session focused on mature Rhône wines. It's a wine to be savored and appreciated for its evolved character and historical significance.
