🏰 The 2021 vintage for Ermitage L'Ermite Blanc is described as having piercing intensity, immense drive, and salty minerality, rather than the extract and concentration of warmer vintages. It's considered a potential "white of the vintage". The wine is still very tightly wound and needs at least 3-4 years of bottle age. The 2021 vintage offers great freshness due to climate change in the Rhône Valley. Expect honeyed lemons, quince, mango, and a liqueur of rocks-like minerality defining the aromatics. Scents of crushed stone accent notes of apricot, pineapple, and lime. The palate is medium to full-bodied, deep, concentrated, and pure, with undeniable salinity on the finish. It is straight, almost severe, with zesty, briny notes lingering long. James Suckling describes the nose as an essence of Mirabelle plums, expanding quietly but with gigantic concentration and perfect balance on the palate. 【 Potential "white of the vintage" with immense drive, focus, and aging potential 】.
🍴 This wine pairs well with rich seafood, poultry with cream sauces, and aged hard cheeses.
🥂 A wine for patient collectors, needing several years to develop. Ideal for a celebratory meal in the future, showcasing a unique expression of Marsanne.
BACKGROUND
Maison M. Chapoutier is one of the most recognizable producers in the Rhône Valley. It is known for its wines from both the north and south of the valley, but in particular for its red and white Hermitage wines, made from Syrah and a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne, respectively.Outside of the flagship vineyards in Hermitage, Chapoutier has vineyards across the Rhône, including plots in Côte Rôtie, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Condrieu. These span both single-vineyard expressions and generic AOC-level wines. Chapoutier also makes regional Côtes du Rhône wines, and has viticultural interests in Australia (Domaine Tournon), Portugal and Alsace.
