FEATURES
The 2011 Lanson Clos Lanson is a rare and exceptional Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut Champagne, crafted from a single one-hectare Chardonnay parcel located within the historic walls of Reims. This unique vineyard, dating back to the 18th century, benefits from a special microclimate and chalky soil, contributing to wines with exceptional mineral aromas. The 2011 vintage was characterized by an unprecedentedly early growing season, with a marked spring drought followed by summer rains that encouraged quick ripening. Meticulous sorting during the August harvest ensured only the healthiest grapes were selected, resulting in grapes with pronounced aromatic richness, good ripeness, and moderate acidity.
This Champagne is vinified in oak barrels, often from the Argonne forest, and aged on its lees for an extended period, typically 12 years, with a low dosage of 4g/L, making it an Extra Brut. Only 8080 bottles and 250 magnums were produced for the 2011 vintage, highlighting its rarity. Tasting notes describe a light gold hue with green reflections and fine, delicate bubbles. The nose offers an intense bouquet of candied citrus fruits, aniseed, menthol, toasted almonds, and fine pastries. On the palate, it presents great finesse with delicate notes of lime, pear, and hazelnut, subtly underlined by vanilla, showcasing aromatic freshness and minerality. Some critics noted a more wooly/lanolin character and dominant chalk in earlier tastings, suggesting it might not have been released, but later reviews indicate a well-developed wine.
🍴 Food Pairing: The fresh and warm character of Clos Lanson 2011 makes it a versatile accompaniment to both cooked and raw dishes, including meat or seafood. It pairs beautifully with rich fish like salmon and tuna, mild and soft cheeses, and is particularly suited for appetizers featuring langoustine, such as langoustine cigars or crudo with Aquitaine caviar.
🥂 Fit for Event: This rare and prestigious Champagne is ideal for special celebrations, elegant dinners, or as a sophisticated aperitif.
