FEATURES
The 2020 Mathilde et Yves Gangloff Condrieu Blanc hails from a vintage that, despite being technically exacting with a hot, dry spring and summer, ultimately delivered grapes of perfect health, ideal concentration, and good acidity thanks to timely showers and cool nights. This led to an early and serene harvest, promising a fine vintage for Condrieu Blanc. Mathilde et Yves Gangloff, now continued by their children Loup and Elsa with Aurélien, are celebrated for their hands-on approach and natural winemaking methods, often described as close to organic. Yves Gangloff himself is regarded as an "artist winemaker."
This Condrieu Blanc is renowned for its incredible complexity, masterfully blending flavors, freshness, and texture. Expect a medium gold hue and a medium-bodied, incredibly pure, and classy profile. The nose offers a subtle marriage of dried fruits, sweet spices, and candied white fruits, evolving into notes of rose water, lavender, white carnation, violet, and even star anise and subtle honey. On the palate, it's ample and unctuous, delivering flavors of peach, exotic spices, pineapple, white flowers, apricot, honeysuckle, and almond, often with a unique oily texture and invigorating minerality. A marked acidity provides a generous persistence, concluding with notes of toasted almond. 【Yves Gangloff has elevated his Condrieu to the pinnacle of white wines in this appellation】.
🍴 Food pairing suggestions: This versatile white wine shines with a variety of dishes. Consider it with seafood such as prawn platters, grilled fish like cod or turbot, scallops, or shrimp. It also pairs beautifully with white meats, including roasted chicken, poultry in creamy sauces, or veal fillet. For something more adventurous, try it with Asian cuisine featuring ginger, coriander, or coconut milk, or even spicy dishes like tagine. Soft-ripened cheeses like Saint-Marcellin, Brie, or Camembert are excellent choices, as are fresh goat cheeses. For a regional touch, a pâté en croûte with foie gras from Lyon is highly recommended. It can even be enjoyed with an apricot tart for dessert.
🥂 Event suggestions: Perfect as an elegant aperitif to kick off a special occasion. While enjoyable now, some suggest it has excellent aging potential, with some recommending waiting until 2030 or enjoying it within a decade for further complexity. Serve chilled between 11-13°C (52-55°F) to best appreciate its delicate aromas without masking them. A light decanting for about 30 minutes can help open up its intricate perfumes.
