Georges Roumier, Morey St Denis Clos De La Bussiere 1er Cru, 2008
The 2008 vintage for Georges Roumier's Morey St Denis Clos de la Bussiere 1er Cru is described as sweet, sensual, and utterly beguiling. The characteristic bracing acidity of the 2008 vintage is beautifully integrated, suggesting the wine is arguably at its peak drinking window.
This precise and striking red Burgundy reveals nuances of dark cherries, herbs, violets, and white flowers. An underlying minerality enhances the fruit's energy and the wine's overall persistence. As a monopole vineyard of Domaine Georges Roumier, Clos de la Bussiere is known for being fleshy and powerful, dominated by black fruits like black cherries and blackcurrants. It possesses a tannic structure that gains length and complexity with maturity. Community tasting notes also highlight red fruit (cherry, raspberry), earthy undertones (leather, mushroom), and subtle oak influences (tobacco, vanilla). Some tasters have even noted barnyard funk, sous bois, pluots, cedar, and anise. 【 A historic monopole vineyard of Domaine Georges Roumier since the 12th century, offering a distinctive masculine 'Morey' character from a celebrated Chambolle-Musigny producer. 】
Food pairing suggestions: Red Morey-Saint-Denis demands strong and robust dishes to complement its tannins and structure. Excellent pairings include game birds such as pheasant, roasted beef or veal, braised beef in rich sauces, sirloin or rib of beef, and hearty beef steaks. It also pairs wonderfully with mature cheeses. More versatile options include chicken and various fish dishes, or a succulent beef tenderloin.
Event suggestions: Being fully mature and drinking exceptionally well, this wine is ideal for a special dinner with discerning friends or a gathering where a powerful and complex red Burgundy is highly appreciated. It's a wine that invites contemplation and enjoyment of its evolved character.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Georges Roumier is a wine producer based in the Côte de Nuits village of Chambolle-Musigny that produces some of the most expensive, best-rated and most popular wines in Burgundy. The winery did not purchase the land directly, but used the French sharecropper/lease system, in which individuals farmed the land for the owner in exchange for a certain percentage of agricultural products. Now, Christophe has taken over the work of the winery and has become the owner of the winery. The current winemaker of the village. He pays close attention to terroir, so little new oak is used, and fermentation temperatures are kept low to allow the wine’s delicious flavors and aromas to shine through.
