🏰 The 2023 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Charmes 1er Cru is already being hailed as an instant classic, showcasing the exceptional quality of this renowned Burgundy white wine. The 2023 vintage in Burgundy saw growers picking early to maintain acidity, resulting in wines that balance richness with a lively profile. This wine, made from very old vines (60-95 years old), offers aromas of ripe apple and hazelnut, accented with hints of smoky reduction and buttery depth. The texture is rich yet lively, with a significant volume and crunch on the palate, lingering persistently. Expect notes of pear and orange oil mingled with honeycomb and freshly baked bread. 【An instant classic Meursault 1er Cru from very old vines】.
🍴 This rich and lively Meursault Charmes 1er Cru pairs beautifully with a range of dishes. Consider rich fish like pan-seared scallops or roasted cod, poultry in creamy sauces, or even delicate white meats. Its nutty and buttery notes also make it an excellent match for mature cheeses.
🥂 This highly collectible wine is perfect for a celebratory dinner, a special gathering of wine connoisseurs, or as a prized addition to a serious cellar. While enjoyable now, it is expected to drink best from 2030-2037, promising further complexity with age.
BACKGROUND
Domaine des Comtes Lafon is a wine producer in Burgundy, France, making some of the most lauded (and highly priced) white wines from Chardonnay in the region. The primary grape variety is Chardonnay, with a small portion being Pinot Noir. The estate is located in Meursault in the Côte de Beaune subregion, but has vineyards in three other villages: Chassagne-Montrachet, Volnay and Monthélie. Comtes Lafon's house and cellar were built in 1869 by the Boch family, but its reputation as a winery was most heavily influenced by Jules Lafon, who married Marie Boch in 1894.
