The 2023 Des Comtes Lafon Meursault Genevrieres 1er Cru, a white Burgundy from the esteemed Côte des Blancs, comes from a Premier Cru-rated climat known for producing richer, more full-bodied Chardonnay. While specific tasting notes for the very recent 2023 vintage are still emerging, general characteristics of Meursault Genevrieres include hints of butter, almonds, and grilled hazelnuts alongside finer citrus-fruit and mineral elements. Expect an aromatic profile in its youth, offering white flowers, apples, and hazelnuts, evolving into notes of acacia honey and vanilla. The palate is typically delicate and classy, with a perfect balance of acidity, fruit, and alcohol, often finishing with a tense, spectacular length and a beautiful mineral expression. The name 'Genevrieres' itself derives from 'genévrier' (juniper), a shrub thriving in the region's limestone soils. 【A Premier Cru Chardonnay renowned for its rich, full-bodied expression and aging potential】.
🍴 This exquisite white Burgundy is a perfect companion for rich white meats, such as roasted chicken or veal in cream sauces. It also shines with luxurious fish and shellfish dishes, especially those prepared with butter or cream, like skate in brown butter or lobster thermidor. For a truly indulgent experience, pair it with white truffle risotto or a creamy Epoisses cheese.
🥂 This wine is an excellent choice for celebratory dinners, sophisticated gatherings, or as a thoughtful gift for a Burgundy lover. Its inherent richness and complexity make it suitable for special occasions where fine dining is paramount. Serve chilled, around 12-14°C (54-57°F), to best appreciate its nuanced aromas and flavors.
BACKGROUND
Domaine des Comtes Lafon is a wine producer in Burgundy, France, making some of the most lauded (and highly priced) white wines from Chardonnay in the region. The primary grape variety is Chardonnay, with a small portion being Pinot Noir. The estate is located in Meursault in the Côte de Beaune subregion, but has vineyards in three other villages: Chassagne-Montrachet, Volnay and Monthélie. Comtes Lafon's house and cellar were built in 1869 by the Boch family, but its reputation as a winery was most heavily influenced by Jules Lafon, who married Marie Boch in 1894.
