FEATURES
The 1992 vintage for red Burgundy, including this Daniel Moine Hudelot Musigny Grand Cru, was generally considered a mixed bag. While whites excelled, reds were often described as soft and simple, though better in Burgundy than Bordeaux. The growing season saw a mild winter and spring, a warm early summer, followed by intense rain in June and late August. Despite a large harvest, the best red wines came from producers who carefully managed yields. These reds, while charming, often lacked the acidity and structure for extensive long-term ageing, being more rewarding for earlier consumption. Specific tasting notes for this particular wine are rare, but general descriptions for 1992 red Burgundies suggest forward and supple wines with delicious fruit. Other Musigny wines from this vintage have shown developed aromas of earth and leather, delicate red florals, liquorice, strawberry, and forest floor, often described as poised and thrilling with excellent length. Some examples exhibit a deep, brooding nose with red berries, mineral notes, and caramel, offering a lithe, well-concentrated, and fresh palate with sweet fruit balanced by a subtle bitter tannin. 【A rare and potentially charming example from a challenging but rewarding vintage for dedicated producers】. 🥂 This mature Musigny Grand Cru is ideal for a contemplative occasion, a significant anniversary, or a gathering of serious wine enthusiasts who appreciate the nuanced evolution of aged Burgundy. It's a wine to be savoured. Given its age, this 1992 vintage is now over 30 years old. Expect a delicate and potentially fragile wine. The cork may be brittle, so use a Durand or Ah-So opener. Decant gently for a short period (30-60 minutes) to separate any sediment, but be mindful of over-aeration which can cause older wines to fade quickly. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F), in large Burgundy glasses to allow its complex aromas to unfold. 🍴 Classic food pairings for Musigny Grand Cru include duck, goose, and other game birds.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Daniel Moine Hudelot is located in the commune of Chambolle-Musigny in Burgundy. Originally a small family estate managed by Daniel Moine, the former mayor of Chambolle-Musigny, the estate was acquired in 2008 by Patrick Landanger from the Domaine de la Pousse d'Or. Today, the estate no longer exists, but its wines are still appreciated by experienced amateurs.
