FEATURES
The 2014 vintage in Montalcino presented its challenges, yet Frescobaldi's CastelGiocondo managed to produce a remarkably balanced Brunello. The CastelGiocondo estate is renowned for its unique terroir, featuring diverse exposures and soils—galestro, clay, and Pliocene sand—which collectively contribute to a Brunello with infinite layers and complex notes that evolve beautifully over time.
This Brunello displays a bright, rich ruby-red hue. The nose is dominated by fruity notes, ranging from raspberry to blackcurrant, complemented by a bouquet of blackberries, cherries, anise, tobacco, and a lingering cedar wood spice. On the palate, it offers a scrumptious mouthfeel that is grippy yet well-polished and integrated, expertly balancing fruit and spice. It possesses medium-plus acidity, body, and tannins, indicating its capacity for further development. While approachable now, it is still young and promises to age gracefully for another five years or more. Some describe it as high-strung, with floral, strawberry, cherry, and mineral flavors tightly stretched on a linear frame, showcasing intensity, harmony, and a finely etched structure, concluding with a long aftertaste of fruit, mineral, and spice. Despite being chewy and tannic for a 2014, it reveals sweet fruit underneath, along with citrus and floral brightness.
