FEATURES
The 2016 Gaja Ca'Marcanda Camarcanda is a beautiful creation from the Gaja family, showcasing an infinitely smooth and finely textured Bolgheri Rosso. This flagship wine from Gaja's Bolgheri estate, Ca'Marcanda, takes its name from the Piedmontese expression for a "house of endless negotiations," reflecting the protracted difficulty Angelo Gaja faced in acquiring the land. The 2016 vintage for Tuscany is widely considered excellent, with a cool and damp winter extending into spring, followed by a warm, dry summer and autumn with substantial day-to-night temperature shifts crucial for retaining freshness. 【 A high-resolution panoramic photograph of flavor and concentration 】. The blend for this vintage is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, aged 12 months in oak barriques and tonneaux (30% new on average) and 6 months in concrete.
Tasting notes reveal an almost opaque purple color and a heavenly bouquet of blackcurrants, smoked earth, charcoal, graphite, and tobacco. It's full-bodied with ultra-fine tannins, plenty of acidity (perfectly integrated), flawless balance, and a great, long finish. The nose also opens with earthy and balsamic notes of violet, roots, bark, and sap. The palate is rich, with concentrated and crunchy notes of blackberry, blueberry, licorice, flint, and red orange. The finish is savory, almost meaty, with a precise note of iron that lingers. Wine Spectator describes intense flavors of cherry, raspberry, rose, and mineral, with vanilla and toast notes on the finish.
🍴 Food Pairing: This bold and structured red Bordeaux blend is an excellent match for beef and venison.
🥂 Event: Ideal for a celebratory dinner, a special occasion with discerning guests, or as a centerpiece for a vertical tasting of Gaja's Ca'Marcanda wines.
