De La Janasse, Chateauneuf-du-pape Cuvee Xxl, 2007
🏰【A legendary, mind-blowing expression of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the 2007 Cuvée XXL from Domaine de la Janasse is a rare, almost pure Grenache powerhouse, highly lauded by critics like Robert Parker.】 The 2007 vintage in Châteauneuf-du-Pape was marked by an exceptionally dry summer, leading to a harvest of outstanding quality with excellent aromatic balance and beautiful colors. This Cuvée XXL, predominantly Grenache with a touch of Mourvèdre, spent three years in foudre and barrels, resulting in an incredibly massive, rich, and concentrated wine. Expect a port-like bouquet of blackberry jam, beef blood, black licorice, and roasted herbs, with a palate that's pure liqueur of Grenache, offering immense fruit and texture, yet remaining balanced with a finish that just won't quit. While some find its concentration almost sweet and high in alcohol, it's a singular, heavenly bottle meant for long-term aging.
🍴 This powerful red pairs exquisitely with rich, flavorful dishes such as roasted or grilled lamb, beef, and game. Consider hearty stews like daube provençale or boeuf bourguignon, or even mature cheeses for a luxurious experience.
🥂 Perfect for a grand celebration, a serious wine tasting, or a special dinner where its complexity and depth can be fully appreciated. This is a wine to share with fellow connoisseurs who appreciate a truly monumental Southern Rhône expression.

Many of the white Châteauneuf-du-Pape varieties, along with Syrah, are planted in the slightly cooler vineyards to the north in east-exposed vineyards.
