FEATURES
The 2000 vintage in Châteauneuf-du-Pape was a notable success, marked by excellent growing conditions with ample sunshine and optimal rainfall, leading to grapes with unblemished tannins and energetic sugars. Domaine Font de Michelle's Cuvée Etienne Gonnet 2000 is a barrique-aged blend, typically comprising 65% Grenache, 15% Cinsault, 10% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre. This wine presents a dense ruby/purple colour, offering inviting aromas of sweet vanilla, lavender, roasted herbs, pepper, cherry, plum, and cassis fruit, alongside smoky notes of cherry, currant, and bitter chocolate. On the palate, it's opulent and expansive, showcasing dark fruits with hints of cacao and sanguine earthiness, supported by supple, suave tannins and harmonious, ripe acidity. Expect a classic, long finish, often extending beyond 40 seconds. 【Opulent, expansive effort with supple tannin and a classic, long, 40+ second finish】
Food pairing suggestions include classic meat dishes such as lamb, veal, pork, beef, duck, and game, whether roasted, braised, or stewed. It also pairs well with barbecue, cassoulet, and even hearty Asian dishes or rich fish like tuna.
This wine is drinking beautifully now for those who appreciate savoury and tertiary notes, and it's expected to continue giving pleasure for at least another 3-5 years, potentially until 2028 or beyond. Decanting for 1-2 hours is recommended to allow its perfume to open up, and it's best served at around 15.5°C (60°F). It's an excellent choice for special dinners or gatherings where a mature, complex red wine is desired.
