FEATURES
Les Pagodes de Cos is the esteemed second wine of Château Cos d'Estournel, taking its name from the estate's iconic pagoda architecture. The 2016 vintage is highly regarded, with critics often noting its "grand vin character" and considering it a serious wine in its own right. This Bordeaux blend consists of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46.5% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, and 0.5% Cabernet Franc, crafted from specific parcels and younger vines of the estate. It is frequently described as balanced, voluptuous, silky, and seductive.
Expect a deep garnet-purple color. The nose offers a complex bouquet of warm cassis, black cherries, smoked meats, charcoal, underbrush, cloves, new leather, cedar, eucalyptus, stewed strawberries, raspberries, redcurrants, blackcurrant, hints of stems, vanilla, plum jam, and black tar. On the palate, it delivers generous black fruits with compelling red fruit sparks, supported by firm yet ripe tannins and good acidity, leading to a long and spicy finish. Flavors include blackcurrant, licorice, bread, ink, black cherries, blackberry, coffee, raspberry, plum, and cherry paste. The wine is polished and refined, showcasing beautiful balance and silky tannins.
For food pairings, it's an excellent match for lamb chops, veal roast, and slow-braised blade roast with wild mushrooms. It also pairs wonderfully with lamb stew and generally complements red meat dishes very well.
This wine is perfect for an impromptu lunch with friends, celebrating life's simple pleasures, or enjoying a carefree conversation. While approachable and delicious even when young, it possesses significant aging potential, capable of evolving beautifully over 15-20 years. 【A serious second wine with grand vin character, offering excellent value.】
