Marcel Deiss L'Arche is a unique Vin de France Blanc, a testament to ancestral viticulture and biodiversity. This non-vintage wine is a field blend of over 60 forgotten Alsatian grape varieties, many of which are not accepted by the Alsace AOC. The grapes come from a single parcel in the Grand Cru of Altenberg de Bergheim, planted in limestone bedrock with layers of pink sandstone and benefiting from a south-facing exposure. The cuvée is named 'L'Arche' (Ark) as an allusion to Noah's Ark, symbolizing the Deiss family's militant commitment to safeguarding floral biodiversity. This wine is deeply textural and layered, with spice, stone fruit, and mineral drive. It undergoes ambient yeast fermentation and aging for 12+ months, often involving whole cluster maceration in amphora with the juice of the given vintage combined with the previous vintage's wine. On the nose, it reveals fascinating aromatic complexity with floral and mineral notes. The palate offers remarkable vibrancy, guided by a subtle silky texture and rare elegance, with low residual sugar underscoring its freshness. Tasting notes from users mention honey, chalk, ginger, apple, Asian pear, pear, orange peel, and orange blossom. It is unfined and unfiltered with zero SO2 added. 【A unique field blend of over 60 forgotten Alsatian grape varieties, representing a militant commitment to safeguarding biodiversity.】
🍴 Food Pairing: This deeply textural and layered wine is a benchmark 'orange wine' for food pairings. It pairs exceptionally well with rich, complex dishes, including roasted poultry, pork, strong cheeses, and even some spicier Asian cuisines. Its mineral drive and complexity can also complement seafood with creamy sauces.
🥂 Event Suggestions: Ideal for adventurous wine enthusiasts looking to explore unique expressions of terroir and traditional winemaking. It's a fantastic conversation starter for a dinner party, a special occasion celebrating biodiversity, or an intimate gathering where food and wine pairing is a central theme.
