Frederic Esmonin, Ruchottes Chambertin Grand Cru, 2011
The 2011 Domaine Frédéric Esmonin Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru is a distinguished red Burgundy from a family estate with a rich history of supplying top négociants before bottling their own wines since 1988. This Grand Cru comes from 50+ year old Pinot Noir vines in a parcel neighboring Rousseau's Clos des Ruchottes. The 2011 vintage is noted for its elegant red fruit and detailed character, with some critics suggesting it has reached its peak but can hold for another decade. 【 Elegant red fruit and detailed character 】.
Tasting notes for the 2011 vintage reveal a pretty and expressive nose combining notes of herbal tea, maturing dark berry fruit, whispers of truffle and underbrush, and the classic stony character of Ruchottes. The palate offers textured and relatively precise middleweight flavors, concluding in a balanced and mildly austere finish with outstanding length. Other notes include spices like pepper and cinnamon, plum, blueberry, dark fruits, floral notes of perfume and violet, and earthy undertones.
Food pairing suggestions include duck, goose, and game birds. It also pairs well with cold cuts or heavier dishes, complementing its savory and classic style.
This wine is ideal for special occasions, a sophisticated dinner party, or a quiet evening appreciating a mature, elegant Burgundy. Given its age, careful handling and decanting are recommended to allow the wine to fully express its complex aromas and flavors. Old corks and capsules can be fragile, so a Durand opener or similar tool might be beneficial. Serve at around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
