FEATURES
The 2010 L'Esprit de Font Caude from Alain Chabanon is the flagship and oldest cuvée of this highly respected Languedoc estate, first launched in 1994. Domaine Alain Chabanon, established in 1992, is celebrated for its original approach and has been certified organic since 2002 and Demeter biodynamic since 2011. This wine is a blend of Mourvèdre, Syrah, and a touch of Grenache. The 2010 vintage is noted for being considerably more refined than its 2009 counterpart, showcasing better-integrated aging, poise, and vibrancy. Chabanon's wines are known for their exceptional depth and complexity, often undergoing very long aging periods of up to 36 months.
This red wine presents a deep carmine color. The nose is complex and intense, with concentrated aromas of small black berries, ripe black fruit, garrigue, leather, and spices like pepper and nutmeg. On the palate, it is rich and elegant, offering notes of dark fruit and spices. It is beautifully structured with well-balanced tannins, bursting with blackberries, autumnal fruit, and spice, culminating in a velvet, finesse, and lengthy finish.
Given its age, this 2010 vintage may have developed some delicate characteristics. Old corks can be fragile, so use a Durand or an Ah-So opener. Decanting is highly recommended to allow the wine to breathe and reveal its full aromatic complexity, as well as to separate any sediment that may have formed over time. Serve at 15-17°C.
🍴 Food pairing suggestions: This wine is delicious with slow-cooked meats such as Provençal stew or tagines, beef, veal, pasta, and rich, gamey dishes like venison casserole or wild boar stew. It also pairs wonderfully with red meat in classic sauces, charcuterie, and mature cheeses like Cheddar or Salers.
🥂 Event suggestions: This is a wine of great elegance, blending classicism with modernity, and is built for long aging. It truly reflects the spirit of the Domaine, making it an excellent choice for special occasions, celebratory dinners, or a sophisticated evening with connoisseurs.
