FEATURES
Romain Guiberteau is widely regarded as a leading figure in the 'New Loire' movement, having honed his winemaking skills at the esteemed Clos Rougeard. He champions organic production, minimal new oak, and a non-interventionist approach, allowing the unique terroir to express itself fully. His Saumur Blanc hails from the tuffeau-rich soils around Saumur, particularly the renowned hill of Brézé, celebrated for its intensely chalk-limestone soils and Mosel-like slopes. The 2025 vintage is anticipated to be a vibrant expression, characterized by freshness and energy in the Loire.
As the 2025 vintage is a future release, the tasting notes are based on projections and the consistent style of Guiberteau's Saumur Blanc. This wine is expected to showcase bright acidity, tightly coiled fruit, and a remarkably long finish. Typically, it presents as taut and focused, with clean acidity running through precise fruit notes of white pear, lemon curd, and green apple, all underpinned by an unmistakable chalky, saline minerality. While enjoyable now, the fruit is expected to soften and develop more mineral and waxy complexity by 2027-2028, reaching its peak around 2030-2036, when Chenin's natural lanolin and honeyed secondary characteristics will integrate beautifully with its chalky backbone. General notes for Guiberteau Saumur Blanc also include yellow apple, pear, and tropical fruit, with a light to medium body and a beautiful viscosity.
🍴 Food pairing suggestions: This Saumur Blanc is a natural companion to the Loire's magnificent freshwater fish, such as sandre (pike-perch) meunière or trout with brown butter. It also pairs excellently with sushi, scallop crudo, roast chicken, halibut with brown butter, or aged chèvre. Other suggested pairings include oysters, various seafood, Thai and other Asian dishes, charcuterie, or salty foods like fried chicken.
🥂 Event suggestions: An excellent choice for a sophisticated dinner, especially with seafood or poultry. Its refreshing character also makes it ideal for summer gatherings. Given its significant aging potential, it is also perfect for cellaring to enjoy at future special occasions. 【 Benchmark Saumur Blanc from a New Loire movement star, showcasing the chiseled minerality of Brézé's chalk-limestone soils 】
