The 2020 Mev Kirsten Chenin Blanc from The Sadie Family Wines is sourced from South Africa's oldest known Chenin Blanc vineyard in the Jonkershoek Valley of Stellenbosch, with vines planted between 1905 and 1920. This vintage is noted for its spicy and light tropical aromas, alongside Golden Delicious apple characteristics, solid tannins, and a very firm, gripping acidity. It presents a soft-spoken minerality and a bright, fine linear texture, moving elegantly and swiftly with immense weight. The wine is described as having an almost electric nose, with dusty mineral essence, underripe pineapple, yellow pear, sweet citrus, and lanolin. On the palate, it offers energetic acidity, a soft chalky mineral tension, and subtle flavors of arugula and underripe peach skin. 【Sourced from South Africa's oldest Chenin Blanc vineyard】. This wine is considered a brilliant follow-up to the 2019 vintage, often rated as one of the highest-rated Chenin Blancs of the year.
🥂 Fit for Event: This exceptional Chenin Blanc is ideal for a sophisticated dinner party, a wine tasting focused on old-vine expressions, or a special celebration where a unique and highly-regarded white wine is desired. Its complexity and aging potential make it a conversation starter.
🍴 Food Pairing: The immense structural weight and high acidity of this Chenin Blanc allow for rich food pairings. It pairs exceptionally well with pan-seared scallops over creamy sweet corn succotash, where its acidity cuts through richness. Other excellent pairings include herb-roasted pork chop with peach or apricot chutney, or butter-poached Maine lobster roll to highlight its viscous texture and saline minerality. For Eastern cuisine, consider rich seafood dishes like steamed whole fish with ginger and spring onion, or a creamy coconut curry with prawns, where the wine's acidity can balance the richness.
