FEATURES
The 2022 Mev. Kirsten Chenin Blanc from The Sadie Family Wines hails from South Africa's oldest known Chenin Blanc vineyard, with vines planted as far back as 1905. The 2022 vintage in South Africa, though smaller than usual, was exceptionally good, characterized by a cooler growing season with minimal disruptions. Winemaker Eben Sadie noted that despite a challenging winter and drought conditions, careful crop reduction after fruit set resulted in one of their lowest alcohol levels ever for this vintage. Only 4,500 bottles of this highly acclaimed wine were produced, made from whole-bunch-pressed, old-vine Chenin Blanc and aged in old foudres. 【Consistently rated as one of the world's greatest white wines.】
On the nose, expect aromatic notes of white flowers, subtle hints of orange zest, and golden apple, transitioning to a blend of cedar, grapefruit, juicy peach, and orange peel. It offers incredible freshness wrapped in finesse and seductive notes of dusty citrus blossoms. The palate is medium-bodied with considerable weight, a delightful nutty essence, and a kiss of phenolic bitterness, leading to a soft, leesy expression. It boasts a complex and creamy texture balanced by vigorous, grippy acidity, with tropical fruit aromas evolving into fresh apricot, ripe peaches, and pears. The wine is dry, with high acidity, a medium-plus body, pronounced flavor intensity, and a long, lingering, food-friendly finish.
🍴 This versatile white wine pairs beautifully with a range of dishes. Consider nutty, savory cheeses like Cheddar and Gruyere. For a more elaborate meal, pan-seared scallops served over a creamy sweet corn succotash, a thick-cut, herb-roasted pork chop with peach or apricot chutney, or even a butter-poached Maine lobster roll would be exquisite choices.
🥂 The Mev. Kirsten Chenin Blanc 2022 is perfect for special occasions, fine dining experiences, or as a sophisticated gift for a wine connoisseur. Its impressive aging potential, with a drinking window extending to 2038 or even 2048, also makes it an excellent candidate for cellaring.
